In our case we don't need to travel very far away from home, about an hour to get to one of our favourite CL sites. The Crown at Mickleton is perfect in every way big serviced pitches, adult only in the middle of Teesdale. Pub's and local transport on the doorstep. Avril is a wonderful lady who is always willing to help make your stay that little bit nicer. It will be even better when the pub reopens.

Prime location and exceedingly spacious. Didn’t use facilities so cannot comment.
Only criticism would be the floodlight which was on all night and spoiled any stargazing in the rural dark sky

A nice spacious CL site, lovely walks directly from the site. Disappointing that the Crown is still not open but the Blacksmiths arms is open and it’s a lovely pub. We’ve stayed here several times and always enjoy the peace and quiet.

Lovely little site, well spaced out plots. Shame pub was not open but we ordered the frozen food parcels and cooked then in the van which was beautiful, can’t wait for the pub to open again as we will definitely go back then

A fantastic CL. We have stayed here many times. The pitches are very large and well kept. Its peaceful and quiet with lovely walks close by. We stayed over New year and though the pub was closed we had a lovely Crown Outdoors meal in the marquee on new years eve afternoon and had a fantastic Crown at Home roast dinner on Sunday. The Blacksmiths Arms just down the road is a lovely welcoming pub for drink. Andrew, Avril and his team make you very welcome and do a great job.

Another lovely few days spent at the Crown CL with it's generous size plots and wonderful views. An ideal base for exploring upper Teesdale, unfortunately the Crown itself was still closed.

At any time of year this is a very good CL in a small village with excellent walks all around. Large, flat gravel pitches allowing van orientation however you want and fantastic views of the fields / fells. Only five pitches so even when full the single shower room / toilet is generally accessible. At the moment the Crown pub is closed but hopefully it will return soon as the food has previously been excellent and it is missed when you stay on the site. The village does have another very good pub which does limited food and there are easy walks to others in both Middleton in teesdale and Romaldkirk. By car or bus both Bowes museum in Barnard Castle and High Force are well worth a visit.

Clean and peaceful site. Very good facilities. Pity the pub's closed - feels permanent, shame. The pub down the road's good and it's very friendly too. At £30 a night perhaps a tiny bit on the high side? Nevertheless we'll probably return.

Great little CL 5 pitch site at the rear of the pub.. Pitches were large and well spaced out. We stayed on pitch 3, beautiful views, really quiet. Facilities spotless.
Great locality for visiting High Force, Bowlees Visitor Centre. Middleton in Teesdale is just down the road with plenty of shops and eateries.
Shame the pub wasn't open when we were there, as it looks a great pub, however it did not spoil our stay.
Will definitely use this site again.

A well kept spacious CL. However for a CL, it is expensive. We ignored the cost as having the pub on the doorstep, where we hoped to be able to enjoy food and good beer compensated. Very disappointed to find it still closed. Fortunately, the Blacksmiths Arms 100 yards away saved the day and provided fantastic pizzas.

Just back from a fantastic weekends stay at the Crown on pitch 2. The word FANTASTIC is not enough to describe how good the facilities are and how peaceful it was. The pitches are massive and the grounds are extremely well kept. The shower/wc room was spotless and very warm. The place is a credit to the owners who unfortunately we didn't get to meet.
The little pub along the street (The Blacksmiths Arms) is well worth a visit it serves a good pint and lovely pizzas and the locals make you very welcome.
We will definately be going back again !!

This was my first time on a CL site and it won’t be the last, a really peaceful location and lovely scenery. We had Pitch 3 and I must say it was the best of 5 pitches but all were a big size. We will definitely go back, it was just a shame the pub wasn’t open while we were there. But that didn’t spoil our weekend. Lovely clean shower and WC room. All in all a great site.

Another successful stay at The Crown Mickleton. We love staying here and so miss the Crown. The site as always is well maintained however we did notice a couple of areas that could be better. The external door skin to the toilet/shower has lost some architrave and is looking like it’s needs some repairs before it needs replacement. The toilet seat was loose and needed to be adjusted but couldn’t be tightened. So maybe the toilet seat needs to be replaced as well. The hand towels ran out and I couldn’t find any to replace or replenish on our last day.
We have mentioned before that a hook could be placed nearer the shower to hang your towel on as you have to hang it on the paper towel holder or window sill. A mop should be left or a squeegee to clean up after a shower.
We do love staying at the Crown I’m not complaining but just saying little things were slightly not to your 5 Star Standards and could be sorted quite quickly.
Can’t wait to stay again.

We love staying at the Crown. The facilities are open shower and toilet immaculate. Such a pity the Restaurant and Pub is not open. We took advantage of the fast food van selling loaded fries, burgers kofta kebabs etc… etc… in the Crowns beer garden. Open on Saturday.
The dog walks are great and it’s two miles to either Romaldkirk or Middleton in Teesdale via the old railway footpath.
The Blacksmith Arms pub is open in the village so you can enjoy a drink there.

We are regular customers on the CL at the Crown and it is one of our favourite sites - shower and toilet clean, facilities good. On previous trips we have always enjoyed the meals in the pub, however, this time the pub is closed due to Covid but the "Crown at Home" service is excellent. Restaurant quality prepared meals are delivered to your home (or caravan) with full instructions on how to heat them. Out of the 9 days we were there, we used this service most days, very good value for money and the food was really, really good and varied menu each week. Can highly recommend.

We've stayed on this site numerous times and won't repeat the positives other reviewers have mentioned re. site size, cleanliness, location etc. However we do want to mention the 'takeaway' that we ordered for the Friday evening. We were blown away by the quality, quantity and variety of the food that was delivered to our van. Now I like cooking but producing food of this standard would have taken hours of preparation, lots of pots and pans to wash and skills that unfortunately I don't possess! A real bargain for a tenner a head. We'll certainly be back.

First thing to say the barn is " micro" but absolutely charming, very good use of space.
Very good shower and very comfy bed.
Little touches- milk and bottled water so you can make a cuppa on arrival, tea bags, coffee a jar of shortbread etc all make a difference.
The meals we had in The Crown, I had twice cooked beef and my wife had chargrilled
Chicken, I followed with winter crumble and my wife had chocolate and salted caramel
Sundae, this morning we both had breakfast ( cereal and full English) before leaving,
All food was very good,
The staff from front of house to kitchen and housekeeping should be praised,
A special thanks to Phillipa ( bar/waiting staff ) she could not have been more helpful.
Also lady this morning ( sorry didn't get name) very helpful on check in and check out.

From start to end the whole day was fantastic. The good weather helped us to enjoy the full range of foods and drink on offer. Catering for so many (about 150) would normally mean something goes wrong. Not at all! The entire meal was superb. Everything freshly cooked and so well presented. A tremendous combination of dishes kept everyone occupied and enjoying themselves.
In the evening as the light faded four ground fires were lit which kept people in the garden, and then the firework display!
What a day, such wonderful food. If only Fresh Fruit Pavlova and home made ice cream would travel.
Not our first visit to the Crown, and certainly not the last.
Thank you for a wonderful day, and fantastic food.

The service is always excellent whether its bar service or food service, ALL of the staff are always friendly and courteous and can't do enoufgh for you
The menu is quite limited, but we have tried most dishes and all are delicious, the current favourite for us both is Steak Fritas (Superb)
We will continue to visit and enjoy and would like to wish all the staff and management the very best for the future

We enjoyed a very friendly welcome.
A first class CL, very generous pitch size, hard-standing with mains & water. A single luxury shower & WC facility, comprehensive waste disposal.
The large pub interior is immaculate with informal seating and open fires. Three real ales on tap, and in very good nick. A menu for most tastes, I would think, and 10% discount for CL guests.
We much enjoyed our battered haddock but, sadly, could not find space for one of the lovely puddings. Excellent service without being over-bearing.
We will be back, and I would recommend to pals without a second thought.

Sally, John & the bar staff were fantastic and friendly nothing was too much trouble. The food was well prepared, well presented, tasted great and was excellent value for money (what more could we ask for). The bar had the usual drinks but it was the real ale's we headed for, as well as `our` spot by the fireplace. We will be back. Thanx again

Excellent standard of food and service-we ate there twice this week- includes good vegetarian choices, gluten and lactose free options
Highly recommended by very fussy people! We will certainly return.

We have missed the Riverside, but the food and the atmosphere is still second to none in Teesdale. Keep up the great work Andrew and Mandy!

We regular eat in S W France which is well renowned for its cuisine but the Crown shows a clean pair of heels both in quality and price to many good French restaurants but with the added benefit of the charm of an English country pub and restaurant.
